Wig Cap for Antique Reproduction Doll – How to

how-to-make-a-wig-cap

Hello everyone….today I’m doll blogging again…..I’m sharing the next step once you have the pate made and glued in place…..I posted how to make a “Pate” a few days ago….if you miss it…..you can click below to see how it’s done…..

  (How to make a Pate)

This is Mama Betty’s E J Jumeau in the photo…..Isn’t she beautiful!!!!!  I love her dark brown eyes and angelic face…..you can see my doll in the background waiting for her turn……

2

First you will need a small piece of fabric…..we used muslin for our wig caps……

3

Next place a rubber band around the head where the hair line should be…don’t forget to pull it down in the back close to the neck…….the pate should be completely covered up……

4

Now cut about 1/2 inch from the rubber band all the way around the head……

5

Now that you have the size…..you may need to shape it up a little…..so the edges will be straight….making it easy to sew around……..

6

Using straight pins…..place 1 inch darts around the circle….place on doll’s head…..keep adding darts until cap fits around the head…..then stitch each dart and sew a finishing seam around the edge…..like shown in photo……

7

You may want to dye the wig cap the color you will be using for the hair…..so it will blend….in the photo we had already dyed the cap to match her brownish blonde hair she will have…………She is so pretty just with her wig cap on……can’t wait to see her with hair…….
