The Garden Angel

The garden angel

Pretty much… every chance I get, (that is….when it’s not raining)…..You will find me outside enjoying the great outdoors…..since we have had so much rain along with all the  cloud cover, the temperature has been very pleasant…..It’s May 20th….and by now we are normally pretty warm here in Texas…….so I’m trying to get as much work done in the yard before the 90 degree plus days show up….

Today I’m showing off my little garden angel…….

2

He’s located  in the corner of my flower bed by my breakfast room window….

See his little wings…..

3

He’s holding a shell which I planted white impatiens in….

4

and white impatiens along the bottom at his feet

5

then I planted 2 white caladiums on both sides……I should have purchase another one for the back….it looks very bare back in the corner…..so I placed my pink miniature rose bush there for right now……. until I plant another caladium ……

6

Look at that precious little face…….

7

Sweet…..don’t  you think…..

8

He’s actually guarding the hummingbird feeder……which is right above his head…..

The Yellow Rose of Texas and it’s on my Patio!

Yellow Rose of Texas

Hello everyone!  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Here in Texas we are still having a lot of rain…… pretty much everyday for the last 3 weeks.  All the surrounding lakes are full and some are over flowing their banks…….All the prayers for rain have certainly been answered…….

Right now we can’t do much outside in the yard……  because it resembles more of a lake than a yard…. and my knock out roses are looking kind of under the weather…..so to speak……

2

So today I’m staying on the patio…..where it’s dry…..

and check it out!!! …..

my yellow miniature roses finally popped open……..Not sure what their name is so I’m calling them of course ….

3

“The Yellow Rose of Texas”

4

Oh are they beautiful!

6

The shade of yellow reminds me of a bright butter cup….

7

Do you see my little rabbit?…..I love Rabbits!!!

9

A little sunshine on a wet and cloudy day…..

8

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my “Yellow Rose of Texas”…..

5

Well look at this…..the sun is shining for just a moment……

Hope you all have a Blessed Day!

Stay dry my sweet friends…..:)

Roses, Roses, Roses, oh how I love Roses!….

Hard to believe that we have been living here for 17 years now….(really, where have the years gone?..)

After all these years….. I finally found the perfect rose bush that will grow in this dark hard clay we call “Texas Farm Dirt”….When we first moved here, I made a little rose garden about 20 feet away from the house…..I purchased the most gorgeous roses you have ever seen…..Jackson and Perkins Roses of all colors with fancy names……(you know the ones they name after famous people….I even had one name Abe Lincoln…) I also had a couple of David Austin roses…..

Oh how I pampered those roses….no matter how much water I gave them…..no matter how much fertilizer I fed them….. ……no matter how much Cow Manure I dumped in that flower bed…..They all one by one kicked the bucket……..Within 3 years they were history….

and….. I was not a 2happy camper……

One spring day I noticed my neighbor’s back yard 2 houses down from us…..along their pool house were these bright red flowers………the bushes were huge….and solid red with blooms……

My hubby was talking to my neighbor one day and happen to ask him about those bright red flowers….the first time I have ever heard of knock out roses….. he planted them many years ago and have never  trimmed or fertilized them and they are as happy as can be….

Perfect……roses that love this hard Texas Farm Dirt!!!!

7

So I purchase only 2 to start off with…..I wanted to make sure they love my yard as much as they loved my neighbors yard before I invest any more money in roses……

they both thrived so I planted some the next year by the patio…..

3

Then around the front of the house the following year…..I even have 2 growing in large pots by the front porch…..

4

along the side of the house…..

5

and the other side……

after many years of planting these roses…..all are still alive and doing well…..I have 28 Double Knock Out Rose bushes now and hoping to add 2 more to the back of the house….

6

You can find these beauties during the spring time at  Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart or any nursery…….

Can’t go wrong with Double Knock Outs….. my mother-in-law now has them lining the front of her house….and my daughter just planted her first knock out by her kitchen window at her brand new house…..A gift from you know who…..me     🙂

I’m in Knock Out Heaven!!!

and Yes….I’m a Happy Camper now!

Dining Room Angel

Dining Room Angel

I have a hard time passing up any statue that is an angel!  And this cute angelic statue was no exception…….Right now He’s calling his best place to be….on my white marble buffet……..

3

He’s fairly large but looks perfect on the buffet in the dining room…….Here lately I trend to decorate with larger pieces…..

Bigger and Less is the Best…….. seems to be my latest motto…..

Pardon the picture……..Mirrors can be tricky…..you get reflections from the flash bouncing off in every direction….

2

I found this Angel Deal at Home Goods while out on a  shopping spree with my baby sister a while back…..They only had one and we both have a motto about that…..Buy it when you see it or else kiss it goodbye……Plus you can always return it if it doesn’t work out……

5

So he came home with me that day……..which I am so HAPPY he did……and is proudly between two tall blue and white vases filled with bright yellow flowers….

Have you ever bought something……and just love the way it looks so much….you know Eye Candy…….It’s pleasing to the eye……

6

that you keep going back to take another look……and another and another……

7

Well that’s exactly how I feel about my angel…..

So glad I bought him that day…..turns out none of the 4 Home Goods stores had one ……

Feeling Blessed!
